Vibrant,
fruity nose of honeydew melon; with the
same profile on the palate, and a terrific
acid backbone. (Charlotte's thoughts were
it "smelled and tasted tangy"
- altho' she also agreed on the melon.)

Most Hunter Semillons
are released too early for you to be able
to appreciate how good they can be - not
this one. Just starting to develop the
range of characters nowhere to be seen
in its you - "honey, lime and a touch
of toast". Drink or keep!

Tulloch
2005 Verdelho ($20)
Similar colour spectrum to the two McWIlliams
wines - but as a 2005, this has more bracing
acidity, with a wonderful summery mix
of tropical fruit, citrus and musk.

Regional Collections 2003 Eden Valley
Riesling ($18)
A terrific wine
(as is the whole Regional Collections
range) that is at that wonderful stage
of showing where it's come from (the citrus
characters) and where it's going (the
toasty, developing elements).

Devil's
Bend Creek
Pinot 2004 ($21)
Ripe
strawberry nose with hints of charry oak.
Prominent char on the front palate, with
fruit holding it together from underneath.
The purists wouldn't agree but will go well
with a mixed grill off the BBQ. |

Taylors
2003 Cabernet Sauvignon ($18)
Slightly
subdued nose, needs some brathing time.
Restained, balanced and pwerful - a really,
really well made wine - should drink brilliantly
for the next 5 years, and very well for
a few years after that. |
