Special Selection Spring
'05 ($200)
Claymore
Nocturne 2002 Merlot ($25)
Rich,
ripe essence of berry nose-beautiful,
superb, full, rounded ripe berry flavours.
Very mouth filling and good intensity
and length on finish should age terrifically
over short medium term (3-5 years). |

Coriole
Contour 4, 2003 Sangiovese-Shiraz
($16)
Terrific combination on
the nose of some savoury, some sweet
- immediately good signs of this
combination of grapes. Similar combination
on the palate - great complexity
in a light - to medium body weight.
Savoury, sour-cherry with a little
sweet red and black berry underneath.
Terrific soft, fine tannins to give
it up to 3 years cellaring. But why
wait! |

Wongalere
1998 Shiraz (McLaren Vale) ($27)
Rich
sweet fruit nose, classic smooth,
powerful. Delicious, big (but not
porty) drinking beautifully now and
another 3-5 years left. Too much
oak when made - but coming out of
it now. Wants a big steak. |

Simon
Gilbert 1999 Cabernet Merlot ($14)
Dark
briar nose, stewed fruits and fresh
red berries peeking through. Rich
smooth sweet fruit, and rich spices.
Powerful, chewiness that comes with
bottle-age, drinking really well
now with a good 2 years ahead. Ideal
for medium-weight red meat dishes. |

Penbro
2002 Chardonnay ($22)
Nice,
inviting yeasty and vanillin nose.
Rich, front palate smoothes out
into a rich smooth slightly oily
creamy and buttery chardonnay.
Very much in the mould of Leeuwin
Estate chardy. Drinking superbly
now, and will last for another
year or 2. Fabulous food wine -
try it with pan-fried Atlantic
Salmon cutlets on a bed of leek
or carrot. |

|
JOT
2004 Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc
($17)
Fresh,
fruit driven, archetypal Margaret
River “classic dry white” style.
Great with Caesar salad, a light
stir-fry or gado-gado. |
|
|
|
|

Mixed
White Dozen ($200)
The two whites from the above selection,
plus:
Smithbrook
2004 Sauvignon Blanc ($20)
Quite
full-on fruit salad nose, quite NZ like.
Very fruity, melon, pear and pineapple. Racy
acidity - a good aperitif, or entrée/light
main course wine |
